Step 23: Front Porch
December 2018
Now, on to the best part of the house. The front porch.
There has been a lot of back and forth about whether this porch is the front porch or the back porch (and therefore, whether the carport is the front or back porch). I don't care what anyone else says. It's is the front porch. The side of the house that faces the water is the front. The end. So, that being said, here is the before of the front porch:
After (with a few building materials in the way still)
Note how we made the windows muuuucccchhhhh bigger.
And on the other side, facing the lake... It's too wide to get just one picture, you have to have three:

So, basically, it's the exact same layout except every surface is new. New floor (with wider weather-proof boards and a screen underneath), new posts (spread out wider between each one), new ceiling (with recessed lighting... there were no lights on the porch before).
Since I can't get a wide enough angle, here's a quick video of the whole thing:
Perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and a friend and just take in the view. Who's in? Any takers? Just show up any time.
Here's the view from the outside, facing the porch... before (way before, 1979):
Then 2018, pre-reno:
And after:
Eventually we'll paint those pillars and it will look even better. Eventually.
Notice how there is a railing on the stairs now. Up to code for the first time in 39 years! Woo-hoo!!
Before (Feb 2018):
After (Dec 2018):
So maybe don't have a typical front door, but we have a pretty amazing front porch instead. I'd take that trade any day.
