Step 17: Exterior: New Siding

October 2018

Originally, we thought we could keep the old siding, just clean it up a bit and only have to put new stuff on the addition. But when they put the new windows in, they had to take some pieces down and it was so brittle, a lot of it just broke. So, we ended up having to replace it all. It may seem boring, but we basically went with the same color, only slightly darker. We talked about different colors, but just worried any color would eventually look dated, and gray is classic, so we stuck with a gray. A kind of middle of the road gray. So, not that exciting color wise, but it looks a lot better. Again, it's probably hard to tell in pictures, but in real life, it looks like a brand new house:

For now, we're gonna to try to live without shutters and see how it looks. We may add them later. The vinyl guys looked at me funny and kept saying, "Are you sure?" But really, on the porch facing the lake, there are so many windows there is no space for shutters, so it seemed kind of silly to do them only on this back part. We can always change our mind and add them later. We'll see.

The ceiling of the carport got the same vinyl treatment:

And the ceiling of the screened in porch:

Gray on gray on gray on gray.

Just means your eyes will be drawn to the blue of the lake and the Carolina blue skies!
