Step 22: Exterior Door Color

November 2018

Well, I picked a color for the exterior doors. Everyone else isn't as on board with this as they were with the other color selections. But I love it.

I mean look at the difference it makes:

Yellow is my favorite color. It's so bright and happy. We hadn't put it anywhere else in the house, and in our old house, both the great room and my bedroom were yellow so... I just had to go for it. So I really went for it, with the brightest yellow I could find. Also appropriately named "Daisy" - one of my favorite flowers.

Others were hesitant, but I thought, why not try the bright? I'd regret it if I didn't try it. And it's only three doors. They'll be really easy to re-paint if I ended up not liking it. But I LOVE it. Even if I'm the only one who does, it makes me happy.

So, here are all three exterior doors. I've finally decided that none of these are the front door. We just don't have a front door.

The one that looks most like a front door because it has a little porch/stoop kind of thing leads into the mudroom and is really at the back of the house. So it's really the back door. Though, most likely, people will end up using it as the main entrance, which means everyone will enter the house through the mudroom. Great. Very classy.

The other quasi-front door is really on the side of the house. And with the way we had to put the sidewalk and the air conditioning units, it is just never going to look like a grand front door, even if we tried to make it one. For  a while, people were trying to convince me this was the front door, since it enters into the living room and comes from the carport/driveway. Sort of. But you can't really see it from the driveway. From the driveway, you'd be drawn into the mudroom door. And you can't see it from the lake. From the lake, you'd go into the screened-in porch. So, no. It's a side door.

So, the actual front door is inside the front porch, from the porch to the living room, so not a typical front door with a stoop that you would decorate for the seasons or anything. But hey, we're not typical people. So we just don't have a front door. I've made my peace with it.

Here's a cool shot of two of the doors open into the living room. The side door (R) and the door from the front porch to the living room (L): They're just a fun pop of color.

Brightens up the gray on gray on gray of the exterior and adds some fun to it all. Seems kinda silly to do a whole post just on the exterior doors, but that's because I wanted the screened-in porch to have a post all to itself.
